The Global Success of Domestic Engineering: İmbat Turns 36
İmbat, one of Türkiye’s 100% domestically owned climate control manufacturers, is celebrating its 36th anniversary. Marking its new year by revisiting the engineering expertise built since 1991 and the technological milestones that have shaped the industry, İmbat proudly shares a journey that has taken it from a small office to markets around the world.

1991–2002: First Steps and Industry Firsts
Founded in 1991 with a dream of manufacturing, İmbat produced its first industrial cold storage unit in 1997. In 1999 the company added both its first Rooftop unit and its first chiller to its product range, followed by its first pool dehumidification unit in 2000 and, in 2001, its first precision air conditioner, now indispensable for data centers. İmbat completed its first export in 2002 and stepped up the R&D investments that have become its greatest strength.
2004–2019: World Firsts Through R&D
After completing its first TÜBİTAK-supported project in 2004, İmbat became the first company in the world to apply inverter technology to multi-compressor cooling systems in 2006. This was followed in 2008 by Asymmetric Cooling Technology, made standard across all its scroll compressor units, and in 2010 by thermodynamic heat recovery in rooftop units. In 2016 the company established the İmbat Technology Transfer Office together with the İzmir Institute of Technology, and in 2019 it institutionalized this expertise by opening its R&D Center, officially approved by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Over 36 years, İmbat has completed a total of 37 R&D projects.
2015–2025: International Standards and Growing Production
2015 was the year İmbat’s engineering quality gained international recognition: with its Rooftop units, the company became the seventh Eurovent-certified manufacturer worldwide and the first in Türkiye. It launched compact Data Center Cooling Units in 2021 and, in 2022, its first aircraft and passenger boarding bridge air conditioners for the aviation sector. With its second large factory building commissioned in 2024, İmbat has grown from a 30-square-meter office in 1991 to a modern production facility of more than 10,000 square meters. The latest milestone of this journey is the Perseus Rooftop unit, introduced in 2025, which goes beyond the latest European energy efficiency (ESPR+) requirements and offers an environmentally friendly refrigerant option.
Turkish Engineering on the World Stage
Today İmbat generates 70% of its revenue from exports to more than 60 countries, bringing Turkish engineering to some of the most prestigious projects in the world. İmbat technology is at work in projects ranging from F1 circuits in Europe and the ICE Arena in Moscow to the Presidential Palace of Kyrgyzstan and Madrid Airport. A journey that began in 1991 with a local dream continues to show the world the strength of Turkish engineering.
